PRAD
One of my BFFs advised me that I exhibit early signs of PRAD. For those who are not familiar with this beastly malady, it's translated as Pre-release Authorial Disease. It's characterized by following:

--frequent and baseless panic attacks, accompanied by incoherent "stream of consciousness" whining

--checking pre-order numbers on BN and Amazon, followed by moaning about soft release

--obsessing over getting on "lists", whatever they may be

--spontaneous outburst of author's idiocy in the comments of unfamiliar live journal users

Given as I am on a deadline, I can't afford PRAD. We need to nip it in a bud. And a soft approach of "hey sweetie, it will be okay" will not work. I need a smackdown.

From now on if you see me mention "soft release" or "preorders", you right away tell me, "Shut up, dirty sluthoe!"

No gentle "don't worry about it".

Soft release - sluthoe.

:nods:

That ought to do it.

WHY ARE YOU ON LJ? YOU'RE ON DEADLINE! FINISH BOOK3.

Wah! You mean you have a release and I was away and didn't realize and now I have to write in run on sentences to communicate my angst at not already having preordered?

(Complete tangent: I tried to recommend Magic Bites to someone at the library on Tuesday, but it was a no go--she'd already read it! I was so psyched that people are finding it before I even get to recommend it [although it was my librarian's pick for the current quarter's newletter]. Since our library tends to be pretty low population in the sf/fantasy readers area, I'm always tickled when people also love the books I pick to hand-recommend. End tangent!)

re: book release (and prad)
I remember one day in 2007 when I was between books from all my favorite authors, authors that I just automatically buy, 'cause I know I'll enjoy their books. I was so bored and NOTHING looked good, I was disappointed by one of my used-to-be favorite authors. The title of Magic Bites caught my eye. I wasn't sure if it was meant to be facetious or dramatic. I read the first page (usually a good warning system to stay away from a bad book, but I've been fooled before) and thought this might be good. I ended up reading it in one weekend. Since then I've been waiting for your next book. This is a long winded way of telling you that you've actually replaced that other author in my automatic buy list. So even though it won't show on the amazon.com pre-order, I'll be buying your book on April 1st, no thinking, weighing the option of other books instead, just going to the book store to buy your book. Don't worry, you (the two of you?) are great and unless your writings suddenly seem like a someone has taken over your writing, writing like a 13-year old fan-fic writer, I'll be a long time fan of yours, buying your books because you are that good. Hope that helps the PRAD.

Prada
Prad makes me think of Prada. So instead of freaking out about Prad, go shopping! Or if it was me, I would be doing some shots of some alcohol and stay away from those book sites!
Stay strong little bunny!

That prolly won't work.

I say deal with prad by delegating it. Maybe one of your kids will do it for you. That way, you can write, without worrying about whether or not your obsessing too much, because you know someone is doing it for you. Or maybe some of us loyal fans/stalkers can do it for you.
